But the shackles were broken in the fifth over bowled by Chanaka Welagedera when Vijay helped himself to three fours and a six. Welegedara's over which also contained four leg byes and a wide went for 23 runs and turned the tide in CSK's favour.
Wayamba struck through Ajantha Mendis who trapped Mathew hayden lbw as the burly left hander tried to slog sweep and missed a straight one. Hayden was out for 10 as Chennai lost their first wicket for 43.
Raina joined Murali Vijay and the two brought up their fifty run patnership of just 30 balls.
Raina survived a close call in the ninth over when Mahela Jayawardene's brilliant throw broke the stumps but a timely dive by the Indian left hander saved the day for him.
The Chennai hundred came up in the 12th over as Raina smashed a Shalika Karunanayake full toss over cover for a boundary.
Murali Vijay brought up his fifty in the 13th over and Raina followed suit in the following over.
Vijay and Raina brought up their century stand of a mere 62 balls.
The two were dismissed of successive deliveries in the 18th over bowled by Welegedara but the damage had already been done as far as Wayamba were concerned.
